sold
Thanks again to everyone who helped us get this place cleaned up. And thank you Seth for doing such a great job selling it. I didn’t expect it to sell so quick!

Last week I was feeling like, “Ok, we worked our tails off to get out to Tucson, we’ve been here for a month, now what?” Well the ball seems to be starting to roll. The pace is starting to pick up at work. I’m trying very hard to keep my over all focus and not get lost in little projects. I’m hoping by this summer we start to see some serious improvements in the city’s web sites. I also have things going on at home. I’m trying once again to amp up jewelry sales to help cover our mounting debt. I’ve also got a new business concept in mind that I’d like to get up and running within a few weeks. We went to a party last night that was celebrating a small technology company’s 6 year anniversary. I’m not much of a mingler, but I’m so glad we went. We met some incredibly interesting people. The kind of people that bring on inspiration just being in their presence. We still don’t have much in the way of friends here. We’ve met a lot of great people, but on more of a professional level. I certainly miss our good friends back in Cleveland.

The city inspector came by this morning to inspect my house rewire. He passed me. That’s a huge load off my back. I did the best job I could and followed code, but was worried that I might have missed something. Guess not. He said it looked very good for someone with no formal training.

Things left to do on the house:

Install footer thing under front door and piston thing on screen door.
Install blinds in bathroom and office
Mount cabinet doors - hardware arriving today
Clean door hardware & put back together
Install molding in kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom.
Install quarter round in doors for tile in kitchen (x2), front entry way, and bathroom
Patch up dining room and paint
Paint Dining room hutches
Paint molding upstairs hall, living room, downstairs hall, dining room
Clean up breaker panel and have inspected
Put thing on bedroom hutch
Patch up office wall & clean
Prime office
Paint office
Sand floors in office, 3rd bedroom, and dining room - Friday
Polyuritaine 3 rooms - Saturday/Sunday

Home Depot List -
Brass cleaner
Molding (wood, and something for bathroom)
Quarter round for tile - need to measure

That’s really not too bad. I’m certainly grateful for the help we’ve received from friends and family. It was key in getting to were we are now with everything. I do have a lot of stuff to pack and go thru too. Stef has been doing the bulk of that and is doing a great job. We are really skinnying down our possessions to only the things that we actually need and use. It’s a very cleansing feeling to get rid of things that we don’t need. If anyone from the South Euclid trash collection department is reading this, you might want to send an extra truck to our house on the next trash day.

Well it was a great weekend productivity-wise. We might be on track for getting the house done by Thanksgiving. I don’t know. So much more to do. My mom, Larry, Jon, Jenn, Alex, and Stef’s mom all came over this weekend. We got the 3rd bedroom almost completely done and a good start on the kitchen and the bathroom. Going to try to finish the kitchen and bathroom this week as well as get a start on the 2nd bedroom. Hope to have the second bedroom done by Saturday night and then I can sand down the floor in the 2nd and 3rd bedroom and the dining room Sunday. Then the following few days leading up to Thanksgiving I can polyurethane the floors and paint trim. Good golly that’s a lot to get done in not much time. And I still need to get the electrical system approved. I hope that goes well.

We’re still working on finding a place to live and figuring out how we’re going to get our stuff moved out there. This is exciting, but I can’t wait until it’s all over.

Stef called a short bit ago on her way back from her school visit. She said the school is awesome and she can’t wait to get started. She also said the city is awesome and she could totally see us living there. All very good news! Meanwhile back at the ranch, it’s going to be a cold and rainy Ohio night.

There’s been some bumps in the road, but it sure feels like we are making good choices here.

My brother came over this weekend and helped me with the house. We got the wallpaper stripped out of the 3rd bedroom. I’ve been slacking a bit this afternoon but I’m about to get back to work. I want to get the electric hooked up in there tonight. Then I can do wall repairs, priming, and painting this week.

In other news, the tile guy came over today to talk with me about what I want done. He seems like a great guy and is very reasonably priced. He’s going to be laying the tile this coming week. It’s quite a hunk of change for me to be spending on a house that we are about the sell, but I think it’s the right choice. It’s going to look so nice when it’s done that I’m not going to want to move.

This isn’t going to be as easy as I’d like it to be. I’m trying to keep facing forward. I’m trying not to think of what I’m leaving behind me. There’s so much to do on this house in the next month that there’s no time for goodbyes. I don’t want it to hurt now. I just don’t have time for it.

Was buying this house a bad idea? I’m trying to think if there was anything good that came of it. For the last 2 years I spent all my time and money working on it and not doing other things that I would have rather been doing. And now I’m going to have nothing to show for it except a few skills that I taught myself in the process. Maybe that’s enough in its self. I’m not sure. There must be a lesson in here somewhere for me. I just don’t see it yet. If we stayed longer then this investment would probably pan out a little better. But we can’t. This isn’t our home. We don’t belong here.
